Guidelines for regular abstract submission


Please note that the abstract content may be edited at the discretion of the Scientific Organizing Committee.


  • Abstracts that have been presented in previous International Gastroenterology/Hepatology Meetings are NOT accepted (including EASL monothematic and special conferences).
    WARNING: Please ensure that your abstract has never been presented at international meeting before (abstract submitted to local meeting are allowed)
    If this rule is not respected, the abstract will be rejected and will not be considered for the International Liver Congress
  • Abstracts should contain only original material not published elsewhere prior to April 9, 2014
  • Abstracts are to be submitted via the congress website only
  • Please follow the instructions listed below and in the abstract submission form step-by-step
  • All abstracts must be submitted and presented in English. Please use UK English spelling and have your abstract proofread for grammar and understanding


Before you begin, please prepare the following information:

  • Presenting author's contact details; include full mailing address, office hours phone number, email address and fax number
  • Presentation type preference (poster presentation / oral presentation)
  • Author or authors' names: first name(s), family name
  • Affiliation details of all authors: department; institution / hospital; city; state (if relevant); country
  • Abstract title must be in UPPER CASE and is limited to 25 words
  • Abstract text limited to 250 words including acknowledgements
  • One table or figure can be included in the abstract if desired. The maimum file size of each graph is 500 KB. The maximum pixel size of the graph is 600(x) x 800(h) pixel. Images should be submitted in JPG, GIF or PNG format only. Please note that these may be resized to fit in the final printed material. EASL restricts the number of graph or table to 1 (one) per abstract submitted.
  • Abstracts should be as informative as possible and must include the following sections:
    • Background and aims
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Conclusions (avoid evasive statements like "the findings will be discussed")
  • Use only standard abbreviations. Place special or unusual abbreviations in parentheses after the full word the first time it appears. Use generic names of drugs. Express numbers as numerals.
    If copy-pasting the abstract from a word-processing software (for example Word), please check that all special characters appear in the right format. You can use the symbol button above the textbox to edit/add such characters
  • Attendance of presenting author
    If an abstract is accepted, one author must attend the congress and present it in person. Acceptance of the abstract implies payment of the registration fee by the presenting author. Poster presenters must be present and stand by their posters during their assigned poster session.
  • After having submitted your abstract, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail with your abstract reference number and personal address code and password. If you do not receive a confirmation by e-mail please contact

Should you wish to make corrections to an abstract already submitted or if you wish to submit other abstracts later, you may use your personal access codes.

Corrections to abstracts can only be made up to the deadline of November 25, 2013

Abstracts submitted by fax or e-mail will not be accepted.

Retraction and deletion of abstracts:
If necessary, authors may delete a submitted abstract, but only before the abstract submission deadline of November 25, 2013.
Once the deadline date is over all submitted abstracts will be reviewed and accepted abstracts will be published.
After the abstract deadline, the authors will have to provide a retraction letter should they wish to retract their abstract.

Embargo policy

Monday 24 March 2014 at 10:00 CEST - a large quantity of abstracts showing abstract title, author's names and abstract data will be posted online two weeks ahead of the congress. These abstracts are publicly available and NOT under embargo.

A smaller quantity of abstracts will be retained and presented during the official EASL Press Office activities and/or in official EASL Press Office materials. These abstracts are under embargo until 6:00 CEST on the day the abstract is presented at the congress. Embargoed abstract titles, author's and institute's names will be made available on the congress website on Monday March 24, however, the related data will only be released at 6:00 CEST on the day of the abstract presentation.
